About Walla Walla

Walla Walla...
CHARMING with old world architecture, RICH in resources and culture, COMFORTABLE with a casual, small-town attitude.

Twentieth century Walla Walla was a quiet little town supported mainly by wheat farms, the renowned Walla Walla Sweet Onion, Washington State Penitentiary, three colleges, and various small businesses.

That changed rapidly when the once-dreaded Y2K came with a huge explosion--an explosion in population, new industry, new development, more and better housing, more restaurants, and motels.

The quiet countryside became dotted with vineyards and wineries, but not to the exclusion of golden fields of wheat and the bountiful fruits and vegetables that grow so deliciously in this valley.

The overpowering presence of many banks and financial institutions bespeak of the prosperity of the Walla Walla Valley. Add to this the many cultural advantages, good schools, hospitals, lovely parks, and a delightful climate and you have a very pleasant and desirable place to live or visit.

Downtown Walla Walla, home of the Marcus Whitman Hotel and many other traditional buildings, is constantly being maintained and restored into a nostalgic and inviting place for tourists, conferences, etc. Its picturesque lampposts, park benches, cobblestone corners, specialty shops and statues intrigue and entertain.

Walla Walla is the hub around which the county revolves.  Other towns and communities are College Place, snuggled into the west of Walla Walla, Lowden, Touchet, Prescott, Dixie, Dayton, Waitsburg, and Milton Freewater, Oregon, our neighboring community to the south.
